Kim Baker is a celebrity makeup artist who has worked on America's Next Top Model as well as highly published work for well- known magazines such as: Lucky, Brides, Seventeen, Marie Claire, New York family, Essence, and more. She has also done make-up for several award shows and celebrity clients like- Toni Braxton, Anna Lynne McCord of 90210 and actor Tom Cruise, just to mention a few. Glamsense Divas had the opportunity to chat with this fabulous MUA about her favorite must haves, why she chose Make-up artistry as a profession over modeling and so much more!

Hi Kim, thanks for chatting with glam...how are you?
Kim: I am Blessed. The pleasure is all mine!
Glam:
Tell us what makes Kim Baker brand so different?
Kim:
I am more than a product I am a woman who is about beauty from my spirit with-in and out. I am also a brand that takes community responsibility serious, you must up-lift woman from with-in texude true beauty and the makeup is the final step!
Glam:longer judged by my race but by my talent. If I had stayed as a model one day longer I would have to hurt someone! (she laughs)
How long have you been doing makeup and how did you get started?
Kim:
(speaking passionately) I have been doing makeup for over 15 years my passion started by having to do my own makeup for a catalog. But I fell in love with makeup when I did other peoples makeup and I could visually see them transform with confidence right before my eyes! They would start to sway when they walked and flip their hair and that is when I knew I could also empower women with beauty on both levels within and physically…. I get so emotional when I see a women feel gorgeous because we are!

You were a model before, who did you model for and why did you choose make-up artistry over modeling?
Kim:
I was a model with Bethann and Wilhelmina models, I chose makeup artistry because I was no

Who are some of your clients and how did you get into the celebrity industry?
Kim:
I have worked with so many celebrities from Tom Cruise to Designer- Betsey Johnson to Dina Lohan to the princess of Bahrain and the lists goes on and on…. which is great since I am an independent makeup artist!
Glam:
Wow, that's great…tell us about your brand Glamazon Beauty Cosmetics?
Kim:
Glamazon Beauty is a line that represents what is beautiful "our natural beauty". That is what I am known for doing -creating natural looking makeup. I’ve worked for Bobbi Brown cosmetics for many years and Bobbi was the first one to say- ‘Kim I think your makeup is stunning’ and that’s what made me say I’m ready to take my skills to woman all around the world!
Glam:
Wow that’s a big compliment…so how is life like working with celebrities?
Kim:
My life as a celebrity makeup artist is exciting. Every day is a new adventure But I never allow me to get caught up- when it’s all said and done they're just people! I am always professional and Never a fan but their artist! I am waiting for Jesus to return and I'll be his fan!( laughing) But for now I'm only a fan of my mom, my husband and my two daughters! (laughing)
Glam:
We definitely hear you on that!!! We know some celebs have huge egos, how do you deal with it?
Kim:
I deal with their ego by not dealing with their egos! (laughing) If you see my in person I am a Glamazon I am a very confident woman who stands 6'3 in heels… that pretty much helps keep people neutral! (She laughs) my husband’s agent said to me ‘I wouldn't try you’ and most people feel that way! Remember I am originally from Newark and homey don't play that! ( laughing)

What’s next for Kim Baker?
Kim:
I have a book that I’m launching called "The Unconventional Makeup Artist," it’s a ‘How to guide’ to becoming a successful working makeup artist in the Entertainment, Beauty and Fashion world! It’s very informative; I wish it was out already... but that is what Glamazon Beauty is all about- making a way for the next that’s preparing to take over the thrown!
Glam:
Great, we’ll definitely look out for the book. What are some of your 'must haves' in your travel make-up bag?
Kim:
Always moisturizer, omega XL -high potency fish oil that makes sure my black won't crack! (She laughs) , mascara, my Glamazon Beauty lip gloss in Punch and an eyebrow kit! When your brows are done your face looks 80 percent done!

Ok, we definitely have to look into the Glamazon glosses…but before we wrap things up, what message(s) would you give to other make-up artists trying to
get into the game?
Kim:
I would definitely say to buy my book "The Unconventional Artist" which will be available on Amazon as an e-book and print but late July. This book is a great guide on everything –from surviving and making it into the industry. It takes more than paint brushes to be a successful makeup artist, it takes the right attitude and a certain work ethic to be noticed out of a sea of makeup artist… every artist has a brush but what separates you from the rest is what this book tells you about!
